The Stories of Old Town Raahe bring together the people, places and traditions that helped shape the world of Lang Resort on Finland’s northern coast. Some are remembered in historical records, while others live on through family stories, local memory and the buildings that still stand today.

Together, they tell the story of life in a northern Finnish merchant town.

The merchant house was built by people. Their decisions, dreams, hardships and achievements shaped the world that still surrounds us today.

  • Johan Lang

    Merchant. Shipowner. Builder.

    Johan Lang was one of the most influential merchants in the history of Raahe. He rebuilt after the great fire of 1810, expanded trade across Europe and laid the foundations for generations that followed.

  • Johanna Franzén

    Daughter of the Merchant House

    As the daughter of Johan Lang and wife of Zachris Franzén, Johanna stood at the crossroads between generations. Through her, the merchant house passed from the Lang family to those who would carry its story forward.
